Biographical note

Having initially gotten training as a kindergarten teacher, she later got her degree in Psychology, specializing in Educational Psychology at ISPA. In December 1990 she obtained her DEA from the University of Provence, and later the Master in Educational Psychology at ISPA. She got her PhD in Child studies from the University of “Minho” in 2003.

She is a member of the Research Unit on Cognitive, Developmental and Educational Psychology I & D Unit (UIPCDE),and of ISPA’s faculty teaching Educational Psychology I and II, Psychology of Apprenticeship and Motivation and Thesis Seminar. In recent years the investigation she has led fits into two fields: On one side Discovery and Learning written language and the role of different contexts, namely the family one. On the other hand the study of affection factors inherent to teaching and apprenticeship, namely motivation for apprenticeship, seeking to characterize it throughout school-age and also the identification of associated contextual factors and individual variables and motivational changes.

Research Interests

For several years I have been researching about parental involvement and the identification and characterization of contextual and personal factors which interfere in parental involvement practices (literacy and education) and their children development. About this topic I am especially interested in the study of motivational features, self-efficacy beliefs and the emotional/affective nature of parent-child interactions. Another significant research interest is the identification and characterization of affective components of the learning process throughout schooling, such as motivation, self-concept, self-esteem and social support from peers and parents. About this topic I am a member the research group of the ongoing project PTDC/CPE-CED/121358/2010 - Effects of school failure in affective components of learning: Relationships with self-representations, emotions, motivational orientations and learning environments.
