Biographical note

Holds a degree in Educational Psychology from ISPA, a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of “Minho” and is an Auxiliary Professor at ISPA – University Institute. He’s a member of the Research Unit on Cognitive, Developmental and Educational Psychology I & D Unit (UIPCDE) at ISPA-UI where he has coordinated the “Life and Learning Contexts: Affective and Identity Processes” line between 2006 and 2010. Has published articles in national and international scientific reviews namely in Educational Psychology and also in the European Journal of Psychology of Education (Reflexion and Critique). He’s a member of the editorial Board of the Educational Research Review and the “Revista Galego-Portuguesa de Psicoloxía e Educación”. He’s a member of the editing board of the “Análise Psicológica” review and associate editor of the European Journal of Psychology of Education. He investigates mostly issues related to motivation within Educational contexts, Self building processes and the relation between variables relating to family and aspects of teenage adjustment.

Self-concept and self-esteem development, during adolescence and its relation with school context; Socio-psychological processes in learning and development; Affective components in the learning process namely those related to motivation; Relational dynamics (family and peers) and relationships with academic adjustment; Cultura organizacional em escolas; Identidade docente, motivação de professores, resiliência em professores;
