The Painting exhibit by Guilherme Parente entitled New fragments of an imagined journey is currently displayed at the “Malangatana” Gallery at ISPA.
The exhibit will be open until June 16th.
New fragments of an imagined journey
This exhibit begins and ends with two circular canvases, like a pair of glasses, two portholes, two windows, entrance and exit of an enchanted constellation that projects itself onto to infinite space. The figures, the objects, the houses, the boats, the fishes and other marine beings, the birds, the clouds wander suspended in a magical habitat of multiple dimensions and various colors.
The universe of “Guilherme Parente” takes off and sends us into the wondrous, the enchanted, the utopia. It is the chronicle of a trip which one metaphorically takes on a ship on rough seas. It is an itinerary with no beginning and no end other than the constant of the trip itself, like a wandering and a destination.
There is something in Guilherme Parente’s narratives from the Invisible Cities of Italo Calvino, reallocated to the river Tejo, at the Belém beach, starting place with caravels about to cast off.
The painting of Guilherme Parente is one of strong chromatic contrasts, of joy and hope. Few times do we encounter an artist that takes us by the arm and invites us the adventurous discovery of this fearless and optimistic, permanent dive into the dream.
Because after all, like the poet said, dreams command life.
